Lots of Locks and Love

LOLLOGOAs we celebrate the successful run of RAPUNZEL! RAPUNZEL! A VERY HAIRY FAIRY TALE, we can’t help but be obsessed with hair. It’s everywhere, and our friends at Locks of Love have been educating us on their efforts to provide much-needed hair to children suffering from medical hair loss.

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization which utilizes donated hair to provide custom hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 with medical hair loss from burns, radiation treatment, alopecia, or other conditions which cause them to lose their hair.

Zoe Long

DCT Executive Artistic Director Robyn Flatt’s granddaughter, Zoe, has participated in Locks of Love, and explained, “They cut off ten inches of your hair to be made into wigs.” The manufacturing process uses up two inches, leaving only eight inches for the hairpiece, and it takes 6-10 ponytails to complete a child-size wig.  Of course, as Zoe pointed out, Locks of Love could do wonders with Rapunzel’s locks!
